30 days of noticing the good
It’s not uncommon to be stuck in a scarcity mindset- to focus on what we don’t have, what isn’t working, what we can’t do and what’s missing. When we’re stuck in this mindset or find ourselves here for a lot of the time, we miss what’s right in front of us. We don’t appreciate what we can do, what we do have, how far we’ve come, how we feel, what’s around us and so on. We take so much for granted! It’s exhausting because nothing ever seems good enough and we’re always chasing something more.
The good news?
Things can change and you can start seeing things in a different light. Being thankful is a practice, so it’s best done as often as possible. I started writing down what I was grateful for and then after a while realised how much more I noticed and had to give thanks for. Now it’s like second nature to me. Yes, there are days where I feel like things aren’t going my way and times when I get bogged down and think there are things that I’m lacking, but I don’t stay stuck.
So how can you start to shift your thinking?
I’d love you to have a go at noticing the good. Start by committing to a practice for the next 30 days. I’ve created a list of 30 gratitude prompts to spark appreciation, help you stop taking things for granted and approach each day with an abundance mindset!
You can write down what you’re grateful for in a journal, pop your response to each prompt into a ‘Gratitude Jar’ and watch your pile of good things grow, reflect on them in your mind, chat about them or do whatever works best for you! By giving the reason ‘why’ you’re grateful for something you’ll have a greater appreciation of what you’re thinking, speaking or writing about.
Before you get started on your 30 days of noticing the good, set a timer for 5 minutes and write down everything you’re grateful for. Keep going until you can’t think of anything else or the timer runs out. Keep this list as you’ll be able to come back to it at the end of the 30 days.
Here are the prompts to help you over the next 30 days…
Name someone who energises you and say why they leave you feeling this way.
What’s something that you’re looking forward to?
What do you love most about yourself?
What’s a family tradition that you value?
What’s something new that you’ve tried recently and loved?
What’s one of your favourite childhood memories?
How have you grown as a person since this time last month?
What’s one way that you love to move your body?
Name 3 things that you couldn’t have done lately if you didn’t have money?
What’s one challenge that you’re grateful for?
Name 3 of your favourite possessions.
What is one of your highest values and how does this shine through?
If you had a day to do anything you’d like, how would you spend it?
Reflect on a time when you belly laughed.
What’s one small thing that you do each day that you’re grateful for?
What’s one place that you love to visit?
Name someone you got to meet who left a lasting impression on you.
What are 5 things that you love about your home?
Describe your favourite holiday in 3 words.
What’s one thing that you do each week for yourself that you’re grateful for?
Go back to a time you did a random act of kindness.
What are 3 things that you can see right now that you’re grateful for?
What lesson are you grateful for learning even if you had to learn it the hard way?
When was the last time someone helped you? How did you feel?
When was the last time you felt like your truest self?
What’s something you love about the current season?
What’s one thing you have now that you didn’t have at the same time last year?
Tell someone in your life what they mean to you. Catch up with them, call them or write to them.
When was the last time you did something that you thought you couldn’t do? How did you feel afterwards?
When was the last time you were vulnerable and how did it make you feel?
At the end of the 30 days finish with this challenge…
Repeat the 5-minute exercise that you did at the beginning. Sit down, set a timer for 5 minutes and list everything you’re grateful for. Once you’re done, compare it to the list that you did at the beginning and reflect. Was this list easier to write? Did you have more to write down? Are you grateful for things that you may have taken for granted before?
I’d love to know what you’re grateful for right now. Let me know in the comments section below!
