Some women I'd love you to meet

Women's Health Week

In celebration of Women’s Health Week, I wanted to introduce you to some special women in the health and wellness field.

Like me, they’re passionate about supporting you every single day (not just this week!). Below you can read more about how they support others, what they do for themselves each day, when they feel their best and one piece of advice they have for you.

Prefer to watch or listen to what we all have to share? You can watch short IGTVs here instead.

I’m going to kick things off…

Bridget Murphy

Women’s Health Coach

3 things I do to support my health and wellbeing each day are:

  • Make sure that I go to bed and wake up at around the same time each day.

  • Notice the good as much as possible. This doesn’t mean that I don’t talk about challenges and things I’m struggling with.

  • Connect with others. Connection is one of my core values so I’ve been connecting with people in different ways lately.

I feel my best when I’m aligned with my values and what’s most important to me. This means when I’m connected to those around me and those I love, am able to support others and have some downtime too.

One piece of advice I have for you is to simplify things wherever you can. Often we make things much harder than they need to be and load ourselves up with unrealistic expectations. Choose something you can take one step back from, make a little easier or break down into realistic steps!

Amy Kate

Director of The Mindful Collective & Developmental Psychologist

Amy and her team (including her beautiful therapy dog, Evie) aim to inspire mindful and compassionate change in those who are part of their collective. They do this through workshops, social media content and psychological therapy.

3 things Amy Kate does for herself each day are:

  • Meditation. Sometimes it’s a hypnosis meditation and other times it’s having an anchor or sitting in silence.

  • Drinks a litre of water every morning without fail.

  • Reconnects with her own personal values, mission and vision outside of The Mindful Collective every morning to connect with the person she wants to be.

Amy Kate feels her best when she’s living consistently with her values.

One piece of advice she has for you is to be aware of what your own personal values are and to do little things each day to connect with those values.

Mel Finlay

Holistic Nutritionist

Mel supports women to better understand their body and their cycle as well navigate PCOS and Endometriosis.

3 things Mel does for herself each day are:

  • Starts her day with a protein and fat rich breakfast to set her up for an energised day.

  • Gets outside for a walk in the fresh air to help reduce the stress hormone, cortisol.

  • Stops drinking coffee and caffeinated drinks by midday because caffeine can stay in our bloodstream for up to 12 hours!

Mel feels her best when she’s looked after her mental health. She makes sure she exercises each day, ideally getting her heart rate up a little to lift her serotonin and to take care of her cardiovascular system.

One piece of advice she has for you is if you’re dealing with PMS, heavy periods, imbalanced hormones or infertility in any way, have a look at your stress levels and what role stress is playing in your life.

You can learn more about how Mel can support you here and follow along for her helpful tips on Instagram.

Sally Kellett

Founder of Mirosuna

Mirosuna is an urban wellbeing and mindfulness studio based in South Melbourne.

3 things Sally does for herself each day are:

  • Wakes up and meditates to set her emotional centre and a reference point of peace and calm for the day.

  • Takes time to do something just for fun on her own or with her husband.

  • Takes her dog to the park to totally disconnect from her work and daily activities.

Sally feels her best when she’s doing things that are aligned with her higher purpose and not wasting time on things that don’t truly bring her happiness. She’s very selective with the things she does each day and what she actively says no to as well.

One piece of advice she has for you is to turn the practice of showing gratitude, love and kindness to others and turn it inward because often we don’t take care of ourselves as much as we do for others. This is the act of self-love and self-compassion.

You can see all that’s on offer at Mirosuna here and learn more from Sally on Instagram.

Dr Sarah Jane

Gentle Chiropractor

3 things Sarah does for herself each day are:

  • Drinks a cup of tea on her own in a mindful way and listens to uplifting music, reads or listens to podcast.

  • Goes for a walk for about half an hour or does a class online.

  • Does something creative that feels good for her on her own like, playing the piano or taking time to reflect.

Sarah feels her best when she eats well, moves her body, is mindful of what she’s taking in, is surrounded by people who make her feel good and has time on her own. She tunes into what her body is telling her through symptoms and does something inline with those.

One piece of advice she has for you is to never stop loving and learning.
